 Colchicine in Acute Coronary Syndrome –Translational Insights Guiding Clinical Trials

Sanjay Patel is a Staff Interventional Cardiologist and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories Director at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital ( Head of the Coronary Diseases Group (Heart Research Institute) and Clinical Associate Professor (Sydney Medical School). He was awarded his MBBS (Hons 1 from the University of Sydney in 2000 completed his advanced cardiology training at RPAH in 2006, PhD studies in 2009, supported by a NHF postgraduate research scholarship. He then undertook postdoctoral studies at Stanford University, while simultaneously training in interventional cardiology at Stanford University Medical Centre (2009-2010) supported by an NHMRC CJ Martin Overseas Fellowship. His research aims to develop novel therapies to target atherosclerosis, specifically targeting the inflammation that drives coronary plaque instability. He co-leads multiple NHMRC funded trials of colchicine in acute coronary syndrome, stroke and COVID 19.

 Dr. Ashish Misra

 Stabilising Atherosclerotic Plaques: One Cell at a Time

Dr. Ashish Misra is the Head of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Remodeling Group ( at the Heart Research Institute ( NSW). He is the recipient of Million dollar Cardiovascular Research Fellowship. His research focuses on blood vessel wall morphogenesis and characteristics of progenitor cell specification, differentiation and proliferation during development and diseases, such as atherosclerosis.
