This seminar will be co-presented by Prof. Gemma Figtree and Dr. Belinda Di Bartolo

Prof. Gemma Figtree

Gemma Figtree is a Professor in Medicine at the University of Sydney. She co-leads the Cardiovascular Theme for Sydney Health Partners, a NHMRC Advanced Health Research and Translation Centre and is the Chair of the University of Sydney’s multi disciplinary Cardiovascular Initiative. Her research focusses on unravelling key mechanisms underlying susceptibility and response to heart attack, with studies extending from the bench to large cohort studies and clinical trials. Gemma has 190 publications in leading journals including Lancet, Circulation, European Heart Journal, which reflect translation of research from molecular discoveries to the clinic and are driven by the patients she cares for as an interventional cardiologist.

Dr. Belinda Di Bartolo

State of the art drug discovery strategies to target novel mechanisms in cardiovascular disease

Belinda Di Bartolo is a senior research fellow in the Cardiovascular Biology Group at the Kolling Institute, University of Sydney. Dr Di Bartolo’s research is focused on inflammation and calcification in vascular biology. In her recent position, she is investigating novel mechanisms as potential drug targets in cardiovascular disease.
