Improving stroke outcomes –adjunct antithrombotic therapies for intravenous thrombolysis
Simone Schoenwaelder is Associate Professor at the Heart Research Institute and The University of Sydney. Following her PhD completion at Monash University, she pursued postdoctoral studies at the University of North Carolina as an NHMRC CJ Martin Fellow in the laboratory of Professor Keith Burridge. She returned to Australia as an NHMRC RD Wright and Monash University Logan Research Fellow, joining the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (Victoria). In 2015, Simone relocated to HRI/USYD, and is a senior member of the thrombosis research group working with Prof Shaun Jackson With platelet biology/pathophysiology as a research focus – her current studies include the development of innovative therapies for the treatment of atherothrombotic diseases.
A/Prof. Vivien Chen
Procoagulant platelets in vaccine induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia – path to a novel assay
A/Prof Vivien Chen is a staff specialist haematologist at Concord Hospital, Head of Basic and Translational in Haematology with a research and clinical focus in coagulation disorders. Dr Chen heads the Platelet and Thrombosis Research Laboratory at the ANZAC Research Institute. She is Chair of the THANZ advisory group for vaccine associated thrombosis and thrombocytopenia. Her research focus is the biology of the procoagulant platelets with a translational focus on the predictive and prognostic role of these pathological platelets in disease states such as immune thrombosis, coronary artery disease, stroke, myeloproliferative disease and sepsis. Her clinical research focuses on venous thrombo embolism, in particular, on the predictors and management of cancer associated thrombosis.
