Speak to your doctor if you are planning a pregnancy. Your doctor may suggest you see a genetic counsellor.<\/li>\n<li>sexually active, use a reliable form of <a href=\"#contraception\">contraception <\/a>(birth control).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>If you have just found out that you are pregnant, you should stop taking your statin (and Ezetimibe) and speak to your doctor. Please be reassured that the likelihood of any problems with the baby is very low.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>LDL cholesterol levels naturally rise during pregnancy. Pregnant women with cardiovascular disease who have severely elevated LDL cholesterol may require treatment with<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"Treatment \u2013 Medication\" href=\"https:\/\/www.athero.org.au\/fh\/patients\/treatment-medication\/#bile\">bile acid binding resins<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>and in severe cases may require<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <a href=\"www.athero.org.au\/fh\/patient\/treatment-medication#apheresis\">lipoprotein apheresis<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"contraception\"><\/a>Contraception<\/h3>\n<p>Low oestrogen oral contraceptive pills, intra-uterine devices and barrier techniques are the preferred methods of contraception for women with FH.
