AAS Trust Travel Grants

Thanks to Prof. Paul Nestel and a very successful International Atherosclerosis Society Meeting that he organized in Melbourne in October 1985, a trust fund exists to provide financial assistance for students to travel overseas.  Normally, two to three students can be supported each year.  Students need to be presenting their research at an international meeting and have evidence of an accepted abstract, or alternatively they need to be travelling to a recognized laboratory for training purposes. Letters of request should be addressed to the trustees of the AAS Trust and be sent to Meetings First.

ISCD – ‘Fostering Frontiers’ CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

We would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the organizing committee to both inform, and welcome you to be a part of the International Symposium on Chylomicrons in Disease (ISCD) being held in Lake Louise Chateau, Alberta, Canada, March 6-8, 2008.

As an expert in this area, you will be aware of the physiological importance of chylomicrons and increasing evidence for a role in metabolic disorders, when their metabolism is impaired. In a scientific context, interest is trans-disciplinary and includes broad areas of physiology, biochemistry, lipoprotein metabolism, nutrition, endocrinology, gastrointestinal function, pharmaceutics, cardiovascular disease, obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes.

Our intention is to capture momentum and host a forum that will facilitate exposure, networking and training in this area. The format of the ISCD will be one of collegiality, open discussion and recognized educational/ professional training; hence we have labelled our theme for 2008 ‘Fostering Frontiers’.

The International Symposium on Chylomicrons in Disease (ISCD) is now open for Registration and Abstract Submission. We are encouraging participants to plan to enjoy the splendour of the Canadian Rockies prior the symposium, or following the symposium (or both!). With this in mind, please make your travel arrangements early, as accommodation at the Lake Louise Château will be limited and in demand due to the high ski season.

All abstracts submitted by December 21st, 2007 will be considered for publication in a special supplement issue of the journal Atherosclerosis in recognition of the ISCD 2008.

As a potential participant, we hope that you will consider joining us and contributing to ISCD in 2008. To register and submit an abstract please see: www.iscd2008.com

We hope this finds you well in preparing for the year ahead and we look forward to your attendance in 2008.

Respectively Yours,

Spencer Proctor, Kathleen M. Botham, Manuel Castro Cabezas, John Mamo
